Coast Crash to City

An eight minute second half burst late on saw Brisbane City score an emphatic 5-1 result at Newmarket last night.

Once again United looked lively and jumped out to an early lead when JJ Prasad got in behind the City defence and slotted home past Clancy in City’s goal. The skillful winger was proving to be dangerous, bringing the best out of City’s teenage shot-stopper on a few other occasions. With the break in sight the home side equalized through the reliable Sam Sibatuara. All square at half-time, a fairly even contest.

After the restart the Coast failed to take a few opportunities with Clancy in City’s goal standing tall. Those missed chances proved costly with City unleashing a goal scoring blitz inside the last 15 minutes of the match, four unanswered goals which left the visitors reeling.

For Coach Sean Lane it’s the manner of his side’s two recent defeats that is of most concern, shifting 5 goals in consecutive losses to Redlands and now City. With several regulars unavailable due to injury the squad’s depth and adaptability is being tested.

“We were well in the game for 70 minutes, unfortunately the game lasts for 90.

“We should have four regular starters back for the next game.” Lane confirmed post match.

Acim Tomic, Tyler Wagstaffe, Brandon Reeves, Matthew Green and Uryu Nagata missed last night’s game. Wagstaffe is unlikely to take any further part in the Club’s 2018 campaign, damaged ankle ligaments confining him to the stands. With nigh on half the usual starting side on the sideline last night, City’s renowned second half scoring capabilities proved decisive.

Next up United welcome Brisbane Strikers to Station Reserve with Lane keen to reverse the Club’s poor recent form against his old Club.
