Georgia Elliston back for 2019

Gold Coast United Women’s Coach Michael Cook has secured the re-signing of young attacker Georgia Elliston as he looks to build a squad capable of improving on a solid 2018 season. Elliston is central to Cook’s plans, the highly experienced player had a breakout season in the Women’s late season surge.
Elliston spent her early years with Palm Beach Soccer Club progressing into the Queensland National Premier League system and making her way through the age groups into the Gold Coast City Women’s squad. Her football education was enhanced at Palm Beach High School’s Football Excellence program, from where she earned a place in the Queensland Schools squad, competing in the National Schools Championships.
Blessed with strength, determination and a ‘big’ engine, Georgia’s blockbusting performances in 2018 yielded a trial with W-League outfit Canberra United where she impressed enough to be asked back to re-trail for season 2020. Still only 18, Georgia has a wealth of NPLW experience with 60 senior appearances and will be an integral part of the Women’s 2019 squad.
Michael Cook knows firsthand the qualities that Georgia brings to the squad.
“She’s a dynamic attacker who creates a load of opportunities for the players around her due to her power and ability to beat defenders.
“Not only that she is a tenacious defender willing to track back and interrupt the opposition, and she can counter with speed.”
“Georgia’s also a great personality in the group and knows the importance of working together as a team on and off the park.
“But beyond that she’s a great club person, keen to pitch in with the younger girls and central to the senior Women’s push to create a great culture across the Club.”
Buoyed by her Canberra experience, Elliston is looking forward to getting stuck in to pre-season with the women’s squad and is super keen for season 2019 to get underway.
“The squad this year is really shaping up well with some exciting new talent and its great to see that the core group of girls have stuck around as well.”
“This season the goal is to better our result from last year and secure a spot in the finals for sure.”
“And personally I’m looking to better myself as a player and person and keep learning from the experienced players like Kenzie, Neesa and Joy.”
“The ultimate goal would be to return to Canberra United trials and make the W-League in the next couple of years.”
With the Women’s pre-season underway and a great vibe around the re-shaped squad, Elliston and her team mates are already focused on what promises to be an exciting year the United women’s squad in season 2019.
