Jets soar over Coast
Acim Tomic leads Gold Coast United on to Wolter Park (Ben McShea)
After squaring the ledger late in the first half, Gold Coast United were out-gunned by Moreton Bay in the second, the hosts bagging 3 unanswered goals to run out 4-1 winners.
United traded blows with the hosts early with missed chances at both ends. Brandon Reeves drew a good save from the Jets Airayee in goal to deny the visitors an opener.
It was the left to the hosts to open proceedings when Chom Arop chipped Zoric in the United goal. The seasiders equalised shortly after, James Coutts with a powerful header from a Rees Duncan cross.
All tied up 1 apiece at half-time.
The second half was all one-way traffic with the Jets dominating after Alex Janovsky converted a penalty with 20 minutes gone. When Janovsky caught Zoric off his line with a long range bomb from inside his own half shortly after, the game was as good as gone.
To their credit United continued to push forward but were caught late by a Moreton Bay counter, the dangerous Arop rounded out the scoring.
According to United Coach Sean Lane, “we were well in the game in the first half and created plenty of chances but only converted one.”
“We conceded another penalty at a crucial time and were chasing the game from there on.”
“We need to be smarter defensively and more ruthless in front of goal.”
United’s focus quickly turns to Tuesday night’s FFA Cup Rd5 match against the Gold Coast Knights at the Croatian Club, Carrara.
“The great thing about our game is that we have the opportunity to fix things on Tuesday night.
“There’ll be a massive focus now on that game and making sure we prepare properly.”
