United Women V Capalaba – NPLWQLD Rd10

All that was missing from a complete performance against The Gap in Rd8 was the three points, with a stoppage time equaliser denying United the win on the bell.

According to Women’s coach Michael Cook, “discipline, maturity, quality – these are the best words to describe our performance against The Gap.”

“Their should be absolute belief within the squad now that we are capable of beating any team in the competition.”

After a bye in Rd9, United have had plenty of time to prepare for the visit of Capalaba, with Cook expecting to have a full and fit squad at his disposal for a key game for both sides.

United player to watch

Teenager Keea Parrish stepped up and showed her potential against the 2018 Premiers last start with a tireless effort that was rewarded with her first goal for the club. After thundering a right foot shot into the upright minutes earlier, Parrish’s determination in the box eventually saw her bang home a left foot shot to open the scoring. A prodigious talent from across the border, the Lismore based player is finding her feet at this level, expect some telling involvements from Keea in the games ahead.

Capalaba at a glance

What a difference a season makes. After finishing 9th in 2018, astute targeted off-season recruiting have seen Capalaba turn things around in no uncertain terms. The Dogs are the real surprise packets of the season so far and sit third on the ladder on goal difference equal on points with Lions, two points adrift of the high flying Jets with a game in hand on the leaders

A key part of Dan Baker’s squad is club captain Steph Latham, a member of the Brisbane Roar W-League grand final winning squad of 2008-09. With Vicki Lines banging in a ton of goals and the influence of US import Katy Couperus at the back, the Dogs have a strong spine and come to Coplicks high in confidence.

Past Encounters

United mauled the Dogs both home and away in 2018, a comprehensive 6-1 win at Capalaba in Rd11 and a 5-0 shut-out at Runaway Bay Soccer Club in the return fixture, Rd 24.
