United v Redlands – NPL Qld Rd12 Preview

United are back in action on Monday against Redlands looking to make it three wins on the bounce in the Queensland National Premier Leagues competition.

In the absence of Kristian Rees, assistant Matt Osmond was on the sidelines last start guiding United past Western Pride to record their third home win for 2019.

Rees is expected to be in the dugout for the Round 12 clash, with preparations this week focused on maintaining the form that see the Men just one win shy of matching their 2018 home win record.

United player to watch

Ryan Cavanah is enjoying his time in the ‘big smoke’ after an off-season move south from the now defunct Cairns FC. While Ryan’s featured in all 10 of United’s 2019 fixtures, he knows that cementing a starting spot in a team in some form will take time. Used in more defensive roles, the fleet footed attacker is prepared to be patient, work hard and be ready to fill whatever role is asked of him.

Redlands at a glance

Redlands finished 12th on the NPL ladder in 2018.  A change of coach and season have not brought any real change in form with the visitors currently 11th on the ladder after notching up 3 wins from their 10 matches in the season to date. Their solitary win on the road came against  the Fire on the Sunshine Coast.

The Cleveland based outfit recently appointed the experienced Graham Ross as the club’s Technical Director. Ross was TD at FQPL side Souths United in 2018 and has managed to lure one of their best marksmen to the club in Kado Aoci. A deadly finisher, Aoci and leading scorer Shuto Kuboyama present as the biggest threats up front.

Past Encounters

Redlands took the points in both 2018 matches winning 2-0 in the Rd3 match-up in Cleveland and wiping the floor in the return fixture at Station Reserve, running away with a 5-1 scoreline.
