Gold Coast United v Sunshine Coast Wanderers – NPLW Rd16 Preview

The Women are at home again this weekend against the travelling Wanderers, keen to repeat the form that saw then trounce Pride in their last outing at Tallebudgera.

No game last weekend for the Ladies, an opportunity to get over any niggles and re-focus attentions on a run of games where points are achievable, beginning Saturday against a Sunny Coast side languishing at the foot of the ladder.

United players to watch

The experienced Joy Forsyth adds grit and steel to United’s defence. The robust defender’s uncompromising tackling and ability to track forward out wide in attack, make Joy a valuable contributor to the Women’s push towards a top four spot.

Sunshine Coast Wanderers at a glance

The Wanderers disappointed in 2018 finishing 12th and again find themselves at the bottom of the ladder with a solitary win to their name in 2019.

Coach Anthony Roche’s placed a stack of faith in the 2018 Wanderer’s U17 premiership winning side and while not lacking in heart, a degree of inexperience at this level has proved telling with the Wanderettes conceding over 50 goals in their 11 outings. In attack the Sunny Coast has managed just 10 goals with Emily Roach the top scorer with 3. Leading scorer in 2018, Samara Christmas, has not found her range yet in 2019 with Rui Yang’s s experience a steadying influence among the younger squad.

Past Encounters

A hard fought draw in Rd4 when United headed north to Buderim. A late Rie Kitano stunner squared things up 1 apiece.

United won both 2018 NPLW fixtures. A dominant 6-2 win at Robina in Rd 13 followed up with a 2-0 win on the road in Rd 26.
