Gold Coast United v Easts – NPL Qld Rd18 Preview

Another mid-week match for United tomorrow night as they look to get their mojo back on track against Eastern Suburbs at Coplicks.

Following some narrow recent defeats which included games against the current top two in the league, the Men will be out to repeat their win over the Tigers back in Rd3 to kick-start the back half of their season. That gritty win at Heath Park was the impetus for a strong run of results and Kristian Rees’ Men will be hoping that taking the three points tomorrow night results in a similar run of mid-season form.

United player to watch

Junya Yabe opened his goal scoring account last start against Lions. The accomplished defender is equally comfortable centrally or out wide. Blessed with the vision and the time to make the game look easy, Junya’s brought a real sense of calm at the back which has United with the fourth best defensive record in the competition.

Easts FC at a glance

After a slow start to their inaugural season, the Danny Wright coached side has found their NPL legs and currently sit 5th on the ladder three points clear of United who have games in hand on the Tigers. Easts boast the fifth best attacking record in the comp but the recent loss of Abrahim Yango, who has headed to France to further his football, leaves Jordan Farina as their main scoring threat up top. Farina’s 16 goals from 13 matches has him leading the Queensland NPL Golden Boot race.

Past Encounters

United won the only previous NPL match-up at Heath Park back in Rd3 1-0. United also defeated Easts twice in the pre-season Inter City Cup prevailing 5-1 in the final.
