Gold Coast United v Brisbane City – NPL Qld Rd19 Preview
Buoyed by a good win against Easts midweek, United head to CTM Stadium on Sunday to face Brisbane City looking to build on the momentum from Wednesday’s 4-2 result.
That win snapped a three game losing streak and moved United back in to fifth place on the National Premier Leagues Queensland ladder, ahead of Easts on goal difference with a game in hand on their nearest rivals.
United player to watch
Tom Miller scored his second goal for the 2019 campaign midweek against the Tigers and showed glimpses of his potential with some telling forays forward, crisp passing and searching crosses from wide. As a junior the Lismore product was snapped up by the Brisbane Roar from Palm Beach NPL and spent several years in the capital before returning to the Coast. Looking to reignite his football after a season in the Gold Coast Premier League in 2018 back with the Sharks, Miller joined United under Rees and has started to find good form at the NPL level of late.

Brisbane City at a glance
John Kosmina’s departure from the head coaching role came just prior to the announcement by Football Queensland that Brisbane City had been fined and docked points for fielding an ineligible player in the first four rounds of the NPL competition, including their 2-1 loss to United at Coplicks in Rd4.
After the loss of those points City found themselves near the foot of the ladder but have climbed well away from the relegation zone, producing some good results under new coach Nick Green. The recent departure of Sam Sibatura to the Victorian NPL leaves former Roar front man, Jean Carlos Solarzano leading the line while at the back former Gold Coast City duo, Matt Jones and Drew Jeskey anchor the defence.
Past Encounters
United won thh Rd4 match at Coplicks 2-1 but were put to the sword in the Rd4 FFA Cup match in Brisbane against Sunday’s opponents losing 5-2. City prevailed in both 2018 encounters scoring five goals in each of those games as well. Chances this one will be a high scoring affair.
