United Women V Logan Lightning – NPLWQLD Rd4

The Gold Coast United Women return to Coplicks this Sunday looking to continue their undefeated start to 2019 when they welcome Logan Lightning to Tallebudgera.

Following a 1-1 draw away against Sunshine Coast Wanderers in Rd3, coach Michael Cook will be looking for improvements in certain areas from his squad this week after, “a performance way below the standards we have been setting so far.”

“We improved in the second half and once we equalised we created 4 or 5 clear cut chances to score.”

“We’ll be working hard this week to capitalise on those opportunities.”

United players to watch

One player who impressed in Rd3 was goalkeeper Britt Hargreaves who denied the Wanderers several chances to extend their lead with some great saves.

According to Cook, “Britt made an amazing one on one save while we were behind one nil to keep us in the game, and that save ultimately earned us the point.”

Interesting fact about Britt, she’s one of the few goalkeepers at senior level you’ll see ‘gloveless’.

Logan Lightning at a glance

The return of Tiarne Petterwood to Logan adds a genuine match winner to the Nick Croyden coached squad. A proven goalscorer at this level, the combination of Petterwood and American speedster, Natalia Pinkney, will cause lots of problems for most defences in 2019.

Croyden coached sides are known for being very organised defensively and hard to break down. Bucking that trend to date this season, Logan have conceded 5 goals in their first two outings in 2019, admittedly against strong opposition, shipping three against the Gap in Rd1 and two last start against the ‘Doggies’ in Rd3. Logan had the bye in Rd2.

Yet to record a win in 2019, Logan head to Coplicks eager to bag their first three points on Sunday afternoon.

Past Encounters

The opener in 2018 at Cornubia Park ended in a high scoring 3-3 draw. The reverse fixture in Rd25, also played at Logan, saw United run out 4-1 winners
