City prevail in goal fest

An all too familiar story at Station Reserve last night with Brisbane City putting 5 goals past United in the rescheduled Rd 4 fixture.

Brandon Reeves continued his fine form in front of goal for the hosts adding two to his season’s tally but in the end City ran out comfortable 5-2 winners, their second win over United in 2018

Sean Lane, Coach of United, was left yet again to rue some defensive lapses which City exploited after the Surfsiders had taken an early lead when JJ Prasad provided Reeves with a simple finish to open the scoring.

“We went a goal up, a great goal, and rather than managing the next 5 or 10 minutes like a good team would, we gifted them 2 easy goals.”

City pounced on their chances, immediately responding to United’s opener. Two goals in two minutes from Hugo Preston & Adam Edgar enough to see the visitors in front 2-1 at the turn.

After re-grouping at half-time the hosts fell further behind shortly after the resumption, two goals in three minutes, the first to James Myer and the second from Edgar securing his brace.

A fifth from City with twenty minutes remaining was the icing on their cake with Reeves’ second goal late on some consolation for United.

Lane was disappointed by the lapses in concentration from his side which allowed City to score four fairly soft goals in five minutes.

“We were poor defensively.

“You can’t defend that way at this level and expect to win games.”

Some positives too from the Coach with praise for Prasad for his efforts and kudos to young sub Hayden Anderson, a late fifteen minute cameo for the sixteen year old bodes well for United’s focus on providing opportunities for young local talent.

“I thought Prasad was looking really good. And another brace for Brando were some positives.”

“We also had a young 16 year old come on late who added some energy.”

Things get no easier for United with three of the League’s top four sides heading to Robina over the next three weeks.

The 2017 Champions, Western Pride, head to the Coast first followed by visits from Lions and Moreton Bay. Oouch!
