Dr Jeff Kemp joins United

Newly appointed Chairman, Andrew Parkes, is delighted to confirm that Dr. Jeff Kemp OAM has accepted an invitation to head Gold Coast United FC’s Wellbeing and Elite Player Inclusion Programs.
Jeff has a long involvement with football on the Gold Coast. A life member of the Board of Football Gold Coast where he held the role of President for 15 years, Jeff’s also a life member of the Mudgeeraba Soccer Club where he served as Chairman for 6 years. In between times, he co-founded the annual Gold Coast Youth Champions Cup and continues in a Director capacity with that event.
As well as being heavily involved in football, Jeff’s also an exceptional educator with over 40 years experience as a specialist primary and secondary teacher and guidance counsellor. His work with troubled youth was recognized in 2012 seeing him awarded with a Churchill Fellowship which enabled him to undertake international research in the USA, UK and Canada on re-engaging disengaging youth.
In 2021 Jeff was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for his services to at risk youth and services to youth sport.
Jeff Kemp brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the club’s Wellbeing and Elite Player Inclusion Program which recognises that positive mental health and wellbeing are central to one’s ability to enjoy life, cope with challenges and learn and engage with others.
GCU’s wellness program is designed to provide support at a group and individual level for players and parents, coaches and club officials.
- Parents: Parenting Today’s Athlete program (4 weekly sessions presented to the parent group on a training night in the clubhouse). Individual counselling for parents within the clubhouse. Regular E-Flyer communication with parents on select topics
- Team Coaches: Group and individual support on mentoring players and identification of ‘at risk’ players. E-Flyer communication
- Players: Team/ Individual mental health/wellness support. E-Flyer communication
