Players: Self-Care

To perform at your best you need to practice self-Care.

A talented youth football player can practice self-care through a combination of physical recovery, mental well-being strategies, and maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

What is Self-Care:
Self-care means taking the time to do things that help you live well and improve both your physical health and your mental health. This can help you manage stress, lower your risk of illness, and increase your energy.

How To Practice Self-Care.
  • Prioritise Sleep:
Aim for 8-10 hours of quality sleep per night to allow your body to repair muscle tissue and consolidate learning. Establishing a consistent sleep schedule is crucial for peak performance

  • Optimal Nutrition and Hydration:
Fuel the body with a balanced diet rich in lean proteins for muscle repair, complex carbohydrates for energy, and healthy fats. Stay consistently hydrated

  • Listen to Your Body:
Distinguish between general soreness and genuine injury pain. Communicate any persistent pain to your coach and your parents

  • Mindfulness and Relaxation:
Practice mindfulness techniques, deep breathing exercises, or meditation to manage pre-game anxiety, clear the mind, and improve focus

  • Pursue Hobbies Outside of Football:
Engage in activities and interests unrelated to football to develop a well-rounded identity and provide mental breaks from the demands of competition

  • Maintain Social Connections:
Spend quality time with friends and family outside of the football environment. A strong support system is key to emotional resilience

  • Time Management:
Use a planner to balance practice schedules, games, school work, social life, and rest time effectively to reduce feelings of being overwhelmed

  • Set Realistic Goals:
Work with your coach and your parents to set achievable short-term and long-term goals. Celebrate progress and focus on personal development rather than just outcomes
