United v Redlands – NPL Qld Rd27 Preview

United are on the road again this week, a trip to Cleveland to take on the fast improving Redlands looking for a break-through win in the Queensland National Premier Leagues competition after a lean streak that extends back to early June.

When your lucks out it’s out as was the case against the Thunder last start who scored in the 3rd minute of stoppage time to grab a share of the points in Toowoomba.

But you make your own luck in football and the Gold Coast United lads have been training hard with only one thing on their minds – a strong performance against their 10th placed hosts on Friday night.

United players to watch

The Northern Rivers remains a hotbed of exciting young footballing talent on both the male and female sides, a great region that continues to produce outstanding young footballers.

An impressive array of young talent from the Northern Rivers have made their mark on the Men’s squad in season 2019 including Jason Campbell (Alstonville / Ballina); Tom Miller (Lismore Workers); Zander Guy & Jackson Boyd (Lennox Head Sharks);  Ben and Tim Lahiff & Lachie Remmers (Kingscliff); Xavier Sproule (Boambee); Trad Thelwall (Tweeed United); Dom Morosini (Murwillumbah) & Jarrah Hall Hart (Byron Bay).

While the going has been tough for the lads of late results wise, the experience gained by these young players has them and the Club in a good place moving forward.

Redlands at a glance

Redlands finished 12th on the NPL ladder in 2018.  A change of coach and season did not bring any real change in form until the arrival of the experienced Graham Ross as the club’s Technical Director from FQPL side Souths United. Ross managed to lure one of Souths best marksmen to the club in Kado Aoci. A deadly finisher, Aoci and leading scorer Shuto Kuboyama present as the biggest threats up front.

Past Encounters

Redlands proved too strong in the Rd9 match-up winning a tight game 3-2. In 2018 Redlands took the points in both matches winning the Rd3 clash at Cleveland  2-0 and wiping the floor in the return fixture at Station Reserve, running away with a 5-1 scoreline.
