United Sign New Keeper

Pasquale Gioffre, the latest United Men’s signing

Pasquale Gioffre will don the gloves today in the Men’s Rd19 match against Olympic FC after arriving on the Coast during the week from Western Australia.

The 22 year old Goalkeeper from Perth has most recently been playing for the Stirling Lions in the NPL WA.

Pasquale spent  the majority of this junior football in the west before trying his hand overseas, spending some time with Reggina in Italy’s Serie B in their U20 squad before returning to Australia and playing for several southern clubs including Heidelberg and Oakleigh Cannons in the Victorian NPL.

Coach Sean Lane confirms that Gioffre comes highly recommended.

“Pasquale had played at some very good Clubs down south. You don’t end up there by chance.

“He’ll add some assurance at the back and help organise our defence.”

Pasquale Gioffre in action

Gioffre joins a United side keen to break a three game losing streak with an improved performance against one of the competition high-flyers in Olympic who come into the match knowing that a win will take them back to the top of the NPL table, currently a log jam with four sides on equal points.

Recent form points to a tough night for United who will look to replicate the approach they brought to Rd6 when they were the first side in 2018 to take a point from today’s hosts who were then unbeaten. It ended up a 2-2 draw at Station Reserve with the visitors scrambling late to salvage a point after United disrupted the visitors who failed to settle into any rhythm that night.
